The story
They are the quiet giants of the American economy. Too big to be called small, too lean to be called corporate, middle market companies sit in the sweet spot in between, and National Middle Market Week finally gives them a spotlight of their own.
The week was established in 2026 by the National Center for the Middle Market, the nation's only research center devoted exclusively to the middle market, housed at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business. It arrives in the Center's 15th anniversary year, celebrating a decade and a half of championing mid-sized businesses.
These companies span manufacturing, healthcare, construction, wholesale trade, professional services, retail, and technology. They drive innovation, power global supply chains, and consistently grow revenue and employment faster than the broader economy. When the nation needs resilience, the middle market delivers.
