Our story
Where we celebrate every day.
Celebration Nation comes from the team behind National Day Calendar®, the original authority on national days. Every day, we surface what the world is celebrating and, more importantly, how to make the most of it.
Meet the founder
Marlo Anderson
America’s Celebration Ambassador
Every great party starts with someone who just loves to celebrate.
For Marlo Anderson, it started with popcorn.
Back in 2013, Marlo, a tech guy from Mandan, North Dakota, who has founded more companies than most people have hobbies, found himself wondering about the history of National Popcorn Day. He searched the web and found nothing. “We live in a day of information,” he said. “How can you not find information about National Popcorn Day?”
So he started digging. Nights and weekends, for two years, he researched the stories behind the days the world celebrates. That little side project became the National Day Calendar, now the official record of the nation’s celebrations, followed by more than 20,000 media outlets and millions of celebrators every day.
But a record only tells you what day it is. Marlo wanted something more: a place to go. A home for the people who don’t just check the calendar, they live it. The ones who throw the party, bake the cake, hang the banner, and invite the whole neighborhood.
So he built Celebration Nation.
If National Day Calendar is the official record, Celebration Nation is the party. It’s where the love of celebrating becomes a community, a place to share your stories, see who’s throwing events, discover fun new ways to celebrate, and find your people. The ones who understand that no Tuesday is too ordinary for tacos, and no Thursday is too quiet for a toast.
After all, this is the same guy who, with a straight face and a full heart, co-founded National Hangover Day on January 1st. He doesn’t just catalog the party. He shows up to it.
No celebration left behind
These days Marlo is on a rescue mission. Scattered across history is a shadow calendar of national days that time forgot. Wonderful reasons to celebrate that slipped through the cracks, with nobody left to throw their party. As America’s Celebration Ambassador, Marlo digs through newspaper archives, old proclamations, and the dustiest corners of the internet to track them down and put them back on the calendar where they belong.
National Chocolate with Almonds Day, every July 8, is one of many days he’s brought back from the brink. Because in Marlo’s America, no celebration gets left behind.
Come celebrate with us. There’s a day for everything, and a place for everyone.
Welcome to Celebration Nation. ๐
“If National Day Calendar is the official record, Celebration Nation is the party.”
