The story

World Emoji Day was founded in 2014 by Emojipedia creator Jeremy Burge as a way to celebrate the impact of emojis in digital communication. This day was chosen because the calendar emoji (📅) displays July 17, making it a fitting choice. Since then, emoji enthusiasts around the world have embraced this day, using it as an opportunity to share their favorite emojis and reflect on their significance in modern interactions.

Emojis have transcended language barriers, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to express emotions and ideas with a simple image. With over 3,000 emojis now available, they have become a universal language in their own right. From the heart emoji (❤️) to the thumbs-up (👍), these symbols add depth and nuance to our messages, enhancing our ability to communicate effectively.

The rise of social media and messaging apps has only accelerated the use of emojis. In fact, research indicates that emoji use has grown enormously since the early 2010s. This surge has led to the inclusion of emojis in various forms of creative expression, from art to literature, showcasing their versatility and cultural relevance.

On World Emoji Day, people are encouraged to engage with emojis in playful ways. From creating emoji-themed art to hosting trivia games, the day serves as a reminder of the joy and creativity that emojis bring to our lives. So, whether you prefer to express yourself with a smiley face or a quirky character, this day is all about celebrating the vibrant world of emojis.
