The story
Growth. Overcome. Empower. Three words, three promises, and one day each October devoted to people doing the hard, brave work of healing. National Goe Day was created for survivors of abuse and trauma, and for the communities that hold them, as a reminder that recovery is not a solo journey.
The day grew out of the My CARE Initiative, which launched in 2015 to bring people together to promote healing and make connections through art. Making art can open doors that words sometimes cannot: a brushstroke, a melody, a shared creative moment can become the start of feeling safe again. Organizations, libraries, galleries, and museums are invited to create healing spaces through art programs, guest artists, displays, and classes.
However you mark the day, the message is simple. Offer to volunteer, share your story, or help someone else take a step toward healing. Reach out on social media with #NationalGoeDay, and let someone know they are not walking this road alone.

Art is the heart of it
Art-based programs are central to the day. Creative expression can support trauma recovery by giving people a safe, nonverbal way to process difficult experiences.
Founded by Kenisha Jones
Kenisha Jones (also listed as Kenisha Coy) of My Care Initiative is credited by National Day Calendar as the founder of the day.
Three words, three promises
Before it was National GOE Day, the letters stood simply for Growth. Overcome. Empower., and the spirit of those three words shapes every observance.
