International Animation Day
Every year on October 28, we raise our pencils, pixels, and puppets to the art of bringing drawings to life. Observed every October 28, International Animation Day honors the night in 1892 when a French inventor projected the world's first animated show for a paying audience. Created by ASIFA in 2002, the day celebrates an art form that has charmed every generation since.

3 ways to celebrate
Host an Animation Marathon
Gather friends for a movie night spanning the styles: a 2D classic, a 3D blockbuster like Toy Story or Finding Nemo, and a stop motion gem like The Nightmare Before Christmas. Compare the techniques and vote for your favorite.
Make Your Own Animation
Try a flipbook, a stop motion short filmed on your phone, or a simple digital animation app. You will gain a whole new respect for Reynaud's 500 hand painted images when you see how much work goes into a few seconds of motion.
Find a Local Screening
Animation associations hold screenings, art exhibits, demonstrations, and workshops around October 28. Check local listings for an event near you, and go see the craft up close.
