National Homeless Persons’ Remembrance Day
Every year on December 21, a solemn evening to speak the names of neighbors who died without a home, and to stand together on the longest night of the year in quiet witness. No one should be forgotten, and on this night, no one is.

3 ways to celebrate
Light a Candle at Home
Light a candle on the evening of December 21 and spend a quiet moment thinking of those who died without a home this year. Share the meaning of the day gently with your family, so the next generation learns that every life has worth.
Join a Vigil in the Community
Attend a local Homeless Persons' Memorial Day vigil or memorial service, many of which are listed through the National Coalition for the Homeless. If your community has no event, help organize one with a local shelter or faith group.
Support a Shelter at Work or School
Organize a donation drive for a local shelter or service provider, collecting blankets, socks, or winter supplies. Invite a shelter worker to speak about homelessness in your community, and listen with an open heart.
Plan ahead
National Homeless Persons’ Remembrance Day moves each year (First Day of Winter). This year it is Monday, December 21, 2026. Check back for future years.
