National Sport Sampling Day
Every year on August 29, the calendar officially gives you permission to try everything. National Sport Sampling Day, celebrated on the 241st day of the year, invites kids and families to sample a new sport, revisit an old favorite, and celebrate the pure joy of playing more than one game. It is the brainchild of Steve and Kerry Boyle and their organization 2-4-1, built on the motto "Life's 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport."

3 ways to celebrate
Try a Brand-New Sport
Clear the driveway or backyard and try a sport you have never played, like badminton, pickleball, juggling, or a jump-rope routine. Borrow gear instead of buying, keep score only if it makes you laugh, and remember that wobbling through the first try is the whole point.
Replay an Old Favorite
Dig out the gear from a sport you used to love and get a pickup game going, whether it is soccer at the park, basketball at the schoolyard, or swimming at the community pool. Notice what the old game taught you that your current one never did, and enjoy the nostalgia.
Host a Free Play Friday
Set up a casual multi-sport sampler at a local park with simple stations for soccer, tennis, basketball, and whatever else shows up. Invite neighbors of all ages, share photos with #NationalSportSamplingDay, and let everyone discover a game they never knew they loved.
