The story
Dr. Rhea Mehta, a molecular toxicologist and wellness expert from Canada, founded Global Smoothie Day in 2015. After years of digestive troubles, she found her way to better health through diet and lifestyle changes, with whole food smoothies at the center. She chose October 3, the anniversary of her father's passing from gastric cancer, as a reminder of why nutrition matters.

The blended drink itself has a long and colorful past. Smoothie-style beverages date back centuries in Mediterranean and South American cultures, and American health food stores on the West Coast were adapting Brazilian puréed fruit drinks as far back as the 1930s. The word 'smoothie' only caught on decades later, when Smoothie King opened in Louisiana in 1973.
Today the smoothie is part breakfast, part health ritual, part art form. It packs fruit, vegetables, protein, and healthy fats into one convenient glass, making it an easy way to sneak more nutrition into a busy day. Green, berry, tropical, or chocolate, there is a smoothie for every mood.
