The story

Back in 2006, the editors of Paper Crafts magazine had a simple idea: invite readers to spend one October Saturday making cards together before the holiday rush. They called it National Card Making Day, expected a cozy gathering of subscribers, and watched it go viral instead.

That very first celebration on October 7, 2006 kicked off what is now a global tradition. The timing was no accident. Early October sits at the perfect launchpad for the holiday card-making season, giving crafters a head start on Christmas, birthdays, and thank-you notes before the rush.

Today the day belongs to everyone who has ever folded, stamped, or glittered a piece of cardstock. In a world of texts and emails, a handmade card is a small rebellion, proof that someone slowed down and made something just for you. So clear the kitchen table, break out the washi tape, and make something wonderful.
