International Podiatry Day
On October 8, International Podiatry Day puts the spotlight on the hardest-working part of your body: your feet. Organized by the International Federation of Podiatrists, the day celebrates the podiatrists who keep us moving and raises awareness that foot health is whole-body health.

Fast facts
The story
They are the farthest thing from your head, and somehow the easiest to forget. Yet your feet carry you through every day, absorb every step, and can even signal trouble elsewhere in your body. International Podiatry Day, observed every October 8, is the world's reminder to stop taking them for granted.

The day is organized by the International Federation of Podiatrists, a nonprofit that has advanced podiatry worldwide since 1947 and now brings together 26 member countries. Before 2018, the federation ran a month-long awareness effort; concentrating the campaign into a single day gave foot health the focused global spotlight it deserves.
Podiatrists do far more than trim toenails. They treat athlete's foot and bunions, care for ingrown toenails and plantar fasciitis, and help people with diabetes protect their feet from serious complications. A podiatrist may be the first to notice signs of poor circulation or nerve trouble. So this October 8, book the checkup you have been avoiding, trade the punishing shoes for something kinder, and thank the specialists who keep you on your feet.
Did you know?
From bunions to blisters
Podiatrists treat athlete's foot, bunions, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, blisters, corns, heel spurs, and diabetic foot issues, among many other conditions.
Diabetes and feet
Because feet can reveal early warning signs, people with diabetes are urged to monitor their foot health closely: raised blood sugar increases the risk of foot problems.
From a month to a day
For many years the FIP marked World Foot Health Awareness Month; in 2018 it shifted to a single day for a more concentrated global campaign.
