International Safety Pin Day
Every year on Saturday, April 10, the little invention that holds the world together. International Safety Pin Day celebrates the humble safety pin, patented on April 10, 1849, by American inventor Walter Hunt, who dreamed it up in about three hours to pay off a $15 debt. In 2027, it falls on Saturday, April 10, and it is the perfect excuse to pin, mend, and get crafty.

Craft something pinned
Make safety-pin jewelry, beaded pins, or a decorated jacket with friends, then compare designs and crown a pin champion.
Wear it loud
Wear safety pins as accessories for the day, or donate sewing and craft supplies to a school art program so young makers can start pinning.
