Why it matters
NATIONAL NACHOS DAY
Join us in celebrating National Nachos Day with a look at the history and cultural significance of this beloved dish.
THE STORY
The concept of nachos originated in Mexico in the 1940s, where they were created by Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya, a chef at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras.
Anaya’s original recipe consisted of fried tortilla chips topped with melted cheese and jalapenos, and was served to a group of American tourists who were looking for a snack.
The dish quickly gained popularity in the US, particularly in the southwestern states, where it was often served at social gatherings and parties.
Today, nachos are a staple in American cuisine, with countless variations and creative toppings available at restaurants and in homes across the country.
The beauty of nachos lies in their simplicity and versatility, making them a beloved snack for people of all ages.
