The story

National For Twelves Day, observed every April 12 (4/12), honors a magnificent number that holds significance in several ways. We measure our days in two 12-hour sets. When we buy roses, eggs, and pastries, we purchase them by the dozen. Twelve months make a year, and math lovers appreciate 12 for its many divisors.

The day was founded in 2019 by the Honolulu Sea Hawkers to celebrate the 12s on a football team, the fans! Their loyalty and support inspire players all season long, and this day is dedicated to all the fans. Football fans wear the number to represent themselves as the 12th member of their favorite team, supporting players on and off the field.

Sports fans remember all the great athletes who wore that fabulous number, Terry Bradshaw, John Stockton, Jim Kelly, Dwight Howard, and Joe Namath all come to mind. Celebrate by posting a picture of a dozen things: roses, cartons of eggs, pastries, or a listicle of the 12 steps you’ll take to reach your goals.

Take pictures of the number 12 when you see it, post a photo wearing your favorite athlete’s number-12 jersey, and share it all with #NationalForTwelvesDay or #412. After all, 12 is such a sublime number.
