National Napping Day
Every year on the Monday after daylight saving time begins, the snooze button finally gets the respect it deserves. National Napping Day exists because springing forward steals an hour of sleep from nearly everyone, and the founders of this cozy holiday say the cure is gloriously simple: take a nap. In 2027, that blissful Monday is March 15, the day after the clocks jump ahead.
- Roots
- Created in 1999 by Boston University professor William Anthony and his wife Camille to celebrate napping and fight the stigma around it.

3 ways to celebrate
Build a nap nest
Pile pillows and blankets into the coziest corner, dim the lights, set a 20-minute timer, and surrender to the shortest vacation you will ever take.
Start a nap club
Challenge friends to a synchronized power nap, then compare notes and award prizes for the coziest setup and the funniest wake-up face.
Champion the rest break
Ask your workplace about real rest breaks, share the science of napping with a skeptical boss, or donate blankets to a local shelter so someone else can rest easy too.
Plan ahead
National Napping Day moves each year. This year it is Monday, March 15, 2027. Check back for future years.
