National Native American Heritage Day
Every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving, a reverent day to honor the rich cultures, histories, and living contributions of Native American peoples. In 2026 it falls on November 27. Communities across the country use the day to learn, to listen, and to recognize the first peoples of this land with the respect they are owed.

3 ways to celebrate
Learn a Native History at Home
Look up the tribal nations whose land you live on and read about their history together as a family. Choose a book by a Native author to read aloud this week, and talk about what you learned.
Support Native Culture in Your Community
Visit a museum exhibit, cultural center, or library program devoted to Native heritage, or shop from Native artists and makers. Attend a powwow or storytelling event if one is happening near you, and go with the attitude of a respectful guest.
Bring Learning to Work or School
Invite a Native educator, artist, or historian to speak, or organize a shared reading of a short work by a Native author. Post a simple land acknowledgment and a list of resources where colleagues and classmates can keep learning.
