3 ways to celebrate
Cook a Maize-Centered Meal at Home
Build tonightu2019s dinner around corn in at least two forms, like grilled corn on the cob plus cornbread, or tacos with fresh tortillas and a side of elote-style salad. Try an heirloom variety if your market carries one, and taste how different blue, red, or glass gem corn can be.
Host a Corn Tasting with Friends
Invite friends over for a corn-themed gathering with popcorn seasonings, different salsas, and a cornbread bake-off. Ask everyone to bring a corn dish from a different tradition, from tamales to polenta to hush puppies. Share photos with #MaizeDay.
Share Maize Facts at Work or School
Bring a bowl of popcorn and a one-page handout of fun maize facts, like the 800-kernel ear or the six types of corn. Challenge classmates or coworkers to name all the corn products hiding in the break room, from corn syrup to corn starch.
